The Nokia phone review period is getting ridiculously short. Seems like the time isn’t sufficient for you to explore all the features of the phone. Perhaps it is just enough to try the new features and not enough to discover the bad points or bugs of the phone?

Shrugs. Perhaps it is just me, I would prefer longer time to review products. Shall blog next time! Got to play with my new toys.

The music player is similar across the N Series except that now you have the option to share your
music! Vendors have rolled out devices that allows user to transmit their favorite music to their car audio system. Now can you do the same with the N78. Simply use the FM Transmitter function and tune your [...]

The N78 comes with bluetooth. Well, it is nothing special as almost all phones come with bluetooth technology nowadays. Pairing up with bluetooth devices (like handsfree, PC) is pretty much a straight forward process. On both devices, initiate the pairing, supply the key (if any)  and voila! Connected.
If you are more techie, you can dig [...]

Wireless Fidelity or WiFi is pretty common in mobile devices nowadays. It is pretty much the same as my N95 or E51 just that you can arrange WiFi access points into different categories. I guess it allows better management as I often get confused over the defined access points, not sure which one to delete [...]

I simply love the picture quality taken by the N78! It is only a 3.2 mega pixel phone but I guess the lens did made a difference. By the way, it has Carl Zeiss lens. One thing about the flash, it does not over expose the object like the N82. Been shopping around these few [...]

Bought a few toys over the weekend and been using the N78 to snap pictures of them. The image quality is surprisingly good despite it being just a 3.2MP phone.
Below are some of the pictures of the new gigabit switch I’ve bought!

N78 does looks nice with all its fanciful transitions. For example, activating camera mode from the main menu will cause the current main window to shrink then rotate from portrait mode to landscape mode. There is also a slide fade out and fade in effect. Another transition in place happens when there are screen display [...]

The design of N78 follows the style of N81 and N82. Compared with the official photos on Nokia’s
website, the N78 definitely looks better in real life. However, the glossy surface is prone to greasing and after a few minutes of use, one would need to find a cloth to wipe the surface clean.
The keypad resembles [...]

Managed to lay my hands on a set of the new Nokia phone - N78. It resembles N82 due to it tiny keypad. I had trouble figuring out where are the left and right soft buttons. Most of the the time I either mistakenly hit the green call button or the red cancel button when [...]

Wow, it seems like Nokia launched a Music Store! Basically it is a service that allows user to download music pieces onto their computer or mobile devices (like handphone) over Internet connection (3G, Wireless, etc)! The service doesn’t come free though, each piece of song would cost you $2 (Singapore Dollars). Well, Apple has got [...]

Guess I am back for another round of blogging. Hopefully I would have much more time to blog.
Seems like mobile on broadband are pretty common nowadays. Quite a number of my friends are using it, even in school. They use it on their long bus ride to and fro school, on the mrt when they [...]

Decided to swap back to N81 (8GB) for a day (yesterday). Friends and relatives sent new year greetings and wishes and replied them on the N81 (8GB).
The result? I have sore fingers today (or rather thumbs). I am one of those people who use fingernails to press the buttons on handphones. It seems like I [...]

“Nokia has again pushed back the launch of its gaming service N-gage due to delays in software testing, a spokesman said on Thursday, in the latest blow to the Internet services ambitions of the world’s top cellphone maker.”
Seems like avid fans of Nokia’s gaming service got to wait again. I shall continue to play those [...]

Time really flies and another year has passed. Hope everybody has enjoyed his or her countdown! I have caught Alien versus Predator 2 with my friends tonight and it ended near midnight. Caught a few glimpse of the fireworks from Plaza Singapura. So how did you spend your new year eve?

It seems like handphones with camera capabilities nowadays give off a sound when pictures are taken. Can we silence the shutter sound?
Sometimes creating a profile with totally no sounds or warning tones works in silencing the shutter sound. Some of the handphones allow you to switch to a more discreet shutter sound but they come [...]

With Nokia rolling out more and more handphones with WiFi capabilities, Internet Call is not foreign to users of these handphones. I’ve tried some of the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service common in Singapore – pFingo and Gizmo. However, reaching users on other networks could be a problem until I found
SIP Broker! Seems like [...]

Merry Christmas 2007! Oops, I am real late in my greetings. Well, it is better late than never. Hope everyone has enjoyed his or her Christmas this year. Orchard area is packed as usual, most people are armed with those party spray cans in their hands. If you didn’t get sprayed, it means that you [...]

Nokia handphone user interface is pretty much the same nowadays. The only difference is the ability to customize what you want or don’t want on the screen. Symbian “desktop” (or rather the main screen) have options for you to keep it clean or have a quick launch area for applications.

The “desktop” with standby applications.
I found [...]

Comparing N81 and E51 side by side, the N81 looks like a meaner machine as it comes with N-Gage features as well as better multimedia features (camera, music player, image gallery, etc) than the E51.

Came across a nice piece of software from
Lonely Cat Games - X-Plore. It is a file manager for Symbian 3rd handphones and does more stuffs than the standard file manager that comes shipped with Nokia handphones. One of the functions allows user to view information regarding their device. A handphone is just like a computer - [...]

User interface is pretty much the same as previous N-series. Nothing really different except that in the menu, it have a symbol at the top right hand corner of icons to let you know that those applications are running in the background.

It is kind of frustrating to know that the N81 comes with a 2 megapixel camera instead of 3 as 3 megapixels camera phones are quite the norm nowadays.
The camera function can be launched by depressing the camera button at the side or by launching the camera application. Grid lines function is something new to [...]

Have you seen how iPod users navigate up and down their multimedia list simply by running their fingers round the wheel? N81 (8GB) comes with a Navi wheel functionality that works like that.

It comes with Real player and Flash player. You can use it to watch the videos you have recorded using the N81 or movie trailers that are offered in Real format. Video play back can be set to become full screen so that you can sit back (slightly) and enjoy instead of squinting your eyes.

FM radio is something that couldn’t be missed. 8GB of storage space is definitely a lot be sometimes listening to stuffs over and over again could be boring. The included Visual Radio application allows you to tune in to your local radio station. The radio function is similar to those implemented in Nokia handphone. Just [...]

The Nokia N81 (8GB) is my second handphone that runs on Symbian. The first one is the Nokia N80. Seems like the N81 wins N80 in every aspect except for the camera function.
One thing I like about Symbian OS is that users can freely install and remove applications. One major drawback of the N80 is [...]

Users of Nokia E51 would realize that the memory card holding area is not really well designed, making it difficult for users to remove the memory card despite the presence of an eject mechanism for the memory card slot. Upon ejecting, the memory card doesn’t protrude enough for users to remove the memory card. I [...]

I’ve got my hands on the N81 (8GB)! I been holding on to N80 for more than a year, keeping my eyes peeled for any new Nokia models that features WiFi in a slim body. It would be good if it is a series 60 phone as I depend a lot on some of the [...]

First thing that caught my attention was the slim candybar profile of the Nokia E51. If you think that it is just any regular cheap phone, then you are wrong. It is quite a feature packed phone – WiFi, series 60, fast processor, etc.
The Nokia E51 is housed in a mixture of stainless steel and [...]

Let’s clear up some misconception regarding the N800. It is not a mobile phone. My brother saw the N800 in the room the other day and he called out to me,
“Did you insert the card inside?”
Thinking that he meant a memory card. I shouted across the room that there is one inside. Before I know [...]

In my opinion, the WiFi capabilities (range, transmitting power, sensitivity) are often proportional to their physical sizes. So don’t expect the N800 to be better than your new laptop in terms of WiFi prowess.
With the N800, I started to do stupid stuff like hooking on to Wireless@SG at train stations (MRT) to check my mails. [...]

What does a combination of high-resolution 4.1 inch display device with capability of using up to two 8GB memory card sounds to you?
Personally, it definitely sounds like a Portable Media Player! There are several application available (at the Linux community - Maemo) to help realize the dream of enjoying high quality videos or music! For [...]

The great thing about the N800 is that it is based on Linux as many of us had mentioned on this Nokia Zone channel.

N80 doesn’t come with auto-focus (AF) functions like you would find in N73 whereby you depress the camera button a little for the camera to focus; and depress it fully for a shot to be taken.
Instead of AF, N80 comes with 2 fixed focus lens - one for close shots and another for further/distant shots. [...]

My Nokia N80
Yeap, this is my current phone - N80 from Nokia. I’ve used a Sony Ericsson (SE) K750 prior to this one and to be honest I was having problem without the Auto Focus (AF) function for camera. This is one of the stuffs I need to give up in order to enjoy the [...]

Internet Tablets are pretty new to me. I’ve seen laptops, PDAs, tablets but not a Internet Tablet. To me, the N800 can double up as a portable media player (PMP) and/or personal digital assistant.Want to know what it can do for you? Check out Nokia’s website. That’s what I did before I got the N800.

Communication devices are really becoming affordable these days. I still remember the days where alphanumeric pagers were the “in” thing and following that era, the then next new “in” thing was to be seen with a handphone.
My first handphone was a Nokia 3210. It wasn’t really impressive when compared to handphones nowadays; it only had [...]
