While we may raise our eyebrows at children who carry cell phones that are more expensive than our own, and parents embrace the idea of being able to contact their child, I feel pity for these children and young teens sometimes.

It is definitely advantageous to have a cell phone. You can call your mom immediately to pick you up from school without having to queue up at the phone booth, you can play games/smses on your mobile phone, you can call for help if you’re lost, you can snap pictures, share pictures with your friends via bluetooth, and so on. It’s a great communication tool in times of emergency (That is probably why your parents get you a phone and the second reason is social pressure) and it is also a great tool to kill boredom.

Well, how about times when you just want to stay out a little longer?

Hmm…

I won’t want to deal with a nagging phone call when I’m out having fun as a growing up kid. We used to break the rules (e.g. curfew), have fun and then just face the music when we return home. Nowadays, everyone is just a call/sms away. Even as a working adult now, I feel that carrying cellphone can be a burden when you just need to take a break. It is like we can’t divorce to our phone. It has became our culture, our life, and our tool to earn money for some.
