Phone History
My first phone was a Motorola StarTacX.It was one of the smallest mobile phone at the time it first launched. I remember going down to the shop to buy it right after I signed the contract for my first job. It had a monochrome screen and there wasn’t any predictive input for SMS. I guess for some people it was fine. It lasted me about a year plus.
My next phone was a Nokia 8250. I bought it the first day it came out because I liked the butterfly navigation button and also because my contract was due for renewal. Among the various selection of mobile phones, that seems the most pleasing. I bought it overseas for my studies but unfortunately the screen had a problem a few days after I got there. To repair it would cost more than $80 and it wasn’t worth it then.
When I came back in 2002, I immediately traded in the 8250 for a Nokia 6100.I would say it was one of my favourite phones since I started using it. The 6100 comes with a colour screen and I can load up some java games. One of the most interesting aspect was that DBS launched its Mobile Online Banking during that period too. I was a frequent user of that system even then on the 6100 with its small screen. The 6100 was also one of the first phones that I actually bought an accessory for it. I bought the colour camera that you need to hook up to it via the port at the bottom and then you can take a pic.The resolution wasn’t that good but nevertheless it was interesting. I used it for about two years before deciding to upgrade to a PDA smart phone. The 6100 was last of the Nokia phones that I’ve owned since then.
Nowadays, mobile technology upgrades at a speed that one does not have the time to get attached to it as much as those phones I had owned in the past.I wonder what the next Nokia holds.
