Looking Forward to “Comes with Music”!

When I was first introduced to Comes with Music, the first person that came to mind was my brother. Unlike myself, who is more of a Mac user due to work, my brother is a full-fledged PC and Nokia user since the very first day. He is a supporter of the N-series and he enjoys listening to music on his mobile device. And sometimes, he creates disastrous moments of deleting songs from our sister’s music player and his very own music collection by accident.

Coincidentally, as I was penning this article, he barged into my room to tell me how he had accidentally deleted all his favorite songs again. It made me wonder if that’s a natural ability of his. :S

“Sis! I don’t know whether I should laugh or cry. Even though my favorite songs are all deleted from my PC, I still have my favorite songs on my iPod. The problem is I can’t transfer them back to my PC! It’s so dumb right?”

Well, I’m pretty much helpless in situations like this – especially if he had already cleared his recycled bin – but all I knew was “Comes with Music” is perfect for music lovers like him.

First of all, it gives you unlimited downloads to all the songs on Nokia Music Store. So you can download all the tracks you can find, wherever you want, whenever you want. How can anything beat that? I could imagine anyone – particularly my fellow Singaporeans, who would make full use of this awesome service. We definitely have that sort of kiasuism in our blood. But there is definitely a catch here. Now, this unlimited download is (ironically) limited to a one year period. However, (here’s a better catch.) you can keep all the music tracks that you’ve downloaded during that year! This way, you won’t be deprived from the music tracks that you’ve painstakingly searched, found and downloaded over the first year.

And especially for people like my brother, who often lose their music collection, or… even people like me, who hardly delete any files by accident (I hope I didn’t just jinxed myself here!), tracks can be re-downloaded from Nokia Music Store whenever we feel like it. It doesn’t mean we have to wait till our music collection is accidentally deleted to re-download the tracks.

Say for today, I am using a new laptop and there’s no music tracks on it. What I did was to install Nokia Music PC client on it and re-download whatever tracks I had onto this laptop. Pretty revolutionary, don’t you think? I know, you’re wondering if you can download these songs onto an unlimited amount of laptops or devices. The answer is a definite no, for every time you re-download the songs onto a new device, a new licence has to be acquired and tagged onto it. And as you can guess, licences are limited to a fixed number, so don’t get too trigger happy and delete your music files too many times.

With the upcoming “Come with Music”, we need is a Nokia device and a PC to enjoy DRM WMA format music tracks. There is no need to worry over the number of downloads because it is legal and unlimited for one whole year. And there are no worries over the possible lost of favorite music collection because you can get them back during the one year period. But remember, to download tracks from Nokia Music Store, you definitely need an internet connection on your PC. ;)
