Over the past decade, social media has become the buzz word of our generation and a huge conversation is being carried out the Internet via the various social media portals. The more prominent ones of this period include Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Myspace.

Social media was mostly conduced via a computer and most will update their thoughts and give their comments and well wishes to friends and family, it gave us a way to be connected to each other without having to be close to each other. However being a desk-bound activity this meant that some content we update (e.g. photos) are hours or days late.

To satisfy the need for instant updates, Nokia has integrated Facebook on their latest N97 and paired with an excellent 5 Megapixel Carl Zeiss camera allowing me to update my Facebook account almost anywhere and keep my friends informed on what I’m doing and show them the great places I visited.

On the N97 the Facebook application runs in the background and updates the latest musings from your friends and family all visible on home screen keeping me updated quickly.

Although Nokia has a great Facebook application for the N97, I really do hope that there will be great implementations of other social media applications (Twitter, Myspace) for Nokia phones.
