Recently I meddled with Nokia PC suite to use the various functions available. One such application I tried was the Nokia Software Updater, and it really makes upgrading of the phone software rather easy.

Connect your phone to Nokia PC Suite, do a backup using Nokia Content Copier, this will create a snap shot of your phone state before doing a software upgrade. What it essentially means is that you get your phone back to the current state after doing the software upgrade. You get back the contacts, messages and other misc. stuff stored on the phone before the upgrade as the upgrade will “restore” the phone to it’s original form.

Once the backup is done, launch the updater and follow the on screen instructions, you will download the new phone software and everything else will be automatic.

After the software upgrade, just do a restore from the backup created and viola you upgraded your phone with everything else intact, no more pesky visits to the Nokia care center and losing all your contacts. Easy?
