Setting up the email connection is easy, using the standard POP/IMAP protocol. Using the Nokia E71 to access e-mails is also a breeze, due to its landscape display and QWERTY keypad. However, a lacking feature is support for HTML e-mails. Without this, some e-mail may not display correctly.

Setting up my e-mail accounts was easy. I had them up within minutes and was reading and replying my e-mails from day one. I have never used any features to relay e-mails to me, so it was a nice ‘safe’ feeling to know I was informed and connected all the time. Still, I wish I had a way to define an access point for each of my inboxes so as to prevent unnecessary and costly data charges.

Easily accessible with the push of one button, it supports different e-mail accounts to be used and is useful for people who have various e-mail accounts for personal and work usage. The attachments can be downloaded easily.

The E71 supports Mail for Exchange, a mobile e-mail client which makes it easy for me to access to my office e-mails, contacts, calendar and tasks easily. It also supports my Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail as well as my SingNet email accounts so that I can constantly be in synch. Setting up all these e-mail accounts on the E71 was a breeze too, with the e-mail wizard provided. I also like the fact that it can support attachments such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files as these are the common file formats that I receive through my daily e-mails.

Reason no. 1: The new e‐mail wizard refines and simplifies setting up e‐mail access, native Gmail and Yahoo! Mail support is a core feature along with enterprise grade MS Exchange integration, coupled with the “Switch Mode” feature, managing personal and professional profiles is a breeze.

Using the e-mail setup wizard, it was a breeze to configure the E71 to access my IMAP and POP3 e-mail accounts. Within minutes, I was able to download my company e-mails and start working. I configured the retrieval settings to automatically download new email headers every hour via my HSDPA connection. Downloading an email does not automatically download the attachments, which I believe is a nice feature. I can decide to download the attachments that I need and therefore, it would not incur unnecessary data charges.

Without a doubt, the ability to receive and send e-mail on the go was the most enjoyable feature. Access to Gmail and Hotmail (Windows Live) accounts was easy, particularly via Wi-Fi. Importing contacts from my own cell phone was a breeze using the provided application, even across a humble IR link.

For a business phone to really empower its user, its e-mail software has to be well sorted out. Happily, Nokia did their work well in this area as initial configuration and the subsequent e-mail communication was intuitive. The QWERTY keypad and its configurable one-touch keys proved invaluable here.

The Nokia E71 comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Exchange (Mail for Exchange mobile e-mail client) and Nokia Intellisync Wireless e-Mail solution and is able to support e-mail accounts from other ISPs with ease. You can easily download attachments like Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PDF files directly to the device, hassle-free. The user interface (UI) has been much improved visually, bearing a familiar Outlook-style with pleasant text reading. Contacts and Calendar applications have also been enhanced to provide better functionality and make better use of the Nokia E71’s screen.

e-Mail typing is made a lot faster thanks to the QWERTY keypad and the multi-purpose CAPS button also aided in speedier and better punctuation. The button-feel could be softer, but not to the extent of rubber, though.

The e-mail feature of this phone is complicated to use. It simply refuses to connect to any of my email accounts. Maybe they should make it simpler to use like a Pocket PC or one of its counterparts.

It’s my first time using e-mail on a phone as I do not really like to type them using a normal keypad. I managed to get connected to Gmail and besides being able to read the mails anywhere I am, I was also able to read the comics that I subscribed to on the go.

I found the interface very user-friendly and efficient; opening attachments and sending out e-mail was a breeze. Calendar appointments and contacts is a cinch when I sync my mobile phone with my PC using Nokia PC suite.

Setting up e-mail accounts in the Nokia E71 is so easy and painless that connection was up within a few minutes to my Gmail, MSN and Yahoo accounts. Trying the 3G connection was fast and even better, via a built-in wireless LAN connection. The second is a cheaper option if you already have a wireless LAN at home or have access to one at the office or wherever you may be. Browsing was easy and the cursor gravitates towards the links on a page (convenient feature). The “back” feature allows you to see a snapshot of previously browsed pages and visually select where you want to go back to.

This is probably the most useful feature available to a business-user of the Nokia E71. I was able to configure the e-mail client without too much of a hassle and was soon reading my office e-mails on the Nokia E71. I was able to check my mail while out-of-office and the QWERTY keypad made messaging on-the-go a lot more efficient that on a standard phone. However, for casual e-mail users like myself, I feel the 3G data charges incurred are probably not worth it.

The e-mail was a breeze to use, with an easy setup process. It’s awesome to be able to check my e-mail even when I’m not at my desk and it makes working so much easier! This really rocked my experience, a highlight that really outshines other competitors.

The speed is fast, the interface is quite user-friendly and allows easy message access. The only issue is that the font size is generally small and makes reading documents like Word, Excel and PDF difficult. A larger screen size would be useful. I wouldn’t be editing Excel files though, as going through the cells is not so easy for a person who is too used to having a mouse on PC.

I was amazed at how easy it was to configure my e-mail accounts with the Nokia E71’s e-mail wizard. Thanks to the 3G connection as well, it was within only a matter of minutes that I was reading my office e-mails and POP3 e-mails on the go. Also, because the phone gives me the option to either retrieve an attachment or not, it allows me to save on the costs of data transfers. Kudos to such a nifty and thrifty smart phone!

Easy setup. I can get my email setup in less than 5 minutes. It has all the relevant software required to open attachments too, for example ZIP, PDF, MS Word, etc. The only thing I would complain about is the delete e-mails function. After deleting, all the emails will still be listed in the e-mail folder.

I encountered some difficulties trying to set up my e-mail accounts, which was later resolved with the help of a more savvy friend. It was pretty much smooth-sailing besides that little hiccup in the beginning. Before long, I was retrieving attachments and e-mails with ease. It’ll be icing on the cake though, if the Nokia E71 incorporated support for HTML e-mails.

Being in the consultancy line, e-mail has always been a requirement when it comes to dealing with clients. The wide screen simplifies the process of reading lots of text and the QWERTY keypad is your handy partner when it comes to the task of replying to e-mails.
