In addition to e-mail & personal information management, the Nokia E71 supports the latest OVI services including maps, music & media sharing that you expect. This includes fast & seamless browsing with HSDPA, WiFi & 3G connectivity, A-GPS & Nokia Maps for navigation, a music player with support for up to 8GB expandable memory & a 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera.

The Nokia E71’s podcasting feature allowed me to unobtrusively download podcasts through my Wi-Fi while at home and listen to the streams later on while on the move. As expected of a business phone, the picture quality of the Nokia E71 is not as impressive as the other phones.

The entertainment suite that comes with the phone is functional and allows me to watch videos, listen to music and radio, surf the net through Wi-Fi or via the 3.5G network without much hassle. In terms of sound quality, I find the sound from the provided earphones overly harsh. Perhaps other reviewers online can identify whether the problem comes from the provided earphones or are inherent from the phone. While the phone does not come with any games, I can easily download Symbian games from the internet. Compared with the Nokia E61/E61i, the faster processor and larger RAM that comes with the Nokia E71 allows me to play games previously unplayable on Nokia E61/E61i. I am not impressed by the GPS and Nokia Maps: it took over a minute to triangulate my position and the map is not updated enough to show the streets leading to my destination. The 3.2-megapixel camera is disappointing. The photos taken by it come with a bluish tinge, while the videos suffer from poor framerates (22 frames per second). I hope Nokia can solve the white balance problem with a firmware update; the latter is probably constrained by the memory bandwidth design.

It’s not bad for a 3.2 megapixel camera and I have no complaints for the WiFi and 3G connectivity. They all work fine for me.
