In addition to e-mail & personal information management, the Nokia E71 supports the latest OVI services including maps, music & media sharing that you expect. This includes fast & seamless browsing with HSDPA, WiFi & 3G connectivity, A-GPS & Nokia Maps for navigation, a music player with support for up to 8GB expandable memory & a 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera.

With a big viewing screen of 2.36 inches, 320×240 display, web surfing and mobile gaming is much more bearable on the E71. Although positioned as an E-series business-centric device, the imaging quality isn’t too shoddy at all. Images taken look sharp and crisp, even when viewed in full screen mode with reasonably good colour rendition. However I noticed that images taken in low-light conditions come with a slight purplish tinge, which I believe can be sorted out with some setting tweaks. I’m no fan of its flash photography though, as I find that the flash is a little too harsh for my liking. Another nifty feature I discovered on the E71 is the ‘Active Notes’ function, where you can now link your phone contacts with ‘sticky notes’. No more forgetting to run errands for my dearest when she calls me again!

It has built in A-GPS and Nokia Maps to navigate your routes. It also supports the popular instant messaging Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger; this enabled me to communicate with my friends even on the go with the built-in Wi-Fi. The music player can support a relatively big memory and the sound effects are good too.

While away from city life for about a week, the Nokia E71 was a welcome refuge. I clocked in some miles on the web browser, the radio, the MP3 player, and even more on a game I installed on the Nokia E71. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the camera, which came across like a compromise without a working auto-focus function.
