As for the 3.5mm jack that allows me to use my own headphones, I find it quite useful as the original earpiece is too big for my ears. As for listening to the FM, I don’t really find it useful. I mean which car/house doesn’t have a radio? It’s not like the past, when the storage of a phone is so little that we can only put a few songs into it. And most people already own an iPod/mp3 player.

For a person doesn’t drive or have a car/FM radio like me, the integrated FM transmitter will not be the main attraction. After trying it on my friend’s car and sharing my favourite music with them, the experience was actually quite fun and the audio quality is pretty good.

So for those who drive a lot and enjoy broadcasting from your phone, you don’t have to use any extra jacks to plug in to the N78 to share anymore.

As expected from a Nokia N-Series device, the features were geared towards the audio-heads in mind. Audio output from its weirdly located stereo speakers was surprisingly clear, though lacking in the bass department. That said, with a built-in FM Transmitter in the phone, I can easily broadcast the music to the nearest home theatre wirelessly and effortlessly!

Explore the Nokia music store via the phone; luckily, I’m on a mobile broadband plan. Download your favorite music tracks right to your phone with no more messy synchronisation or cables. Listen to your favorite Internet music station or tune in to the local music stations via the radio. Not forgetting the much popularised podcasts, get your weekly Mr. Brown updates and other podcasts downloaded right to your phone! Oh, and did I mention that there is a built-in FM transmitter? just tune your car or any radio to the channel you set on the phone and voila, you’re the DJ of your own music channel!

The music player is similar across the Nseries, except that now you have the option to share your music! There is no longer a need to have audio cables to link up your music player to the car audio system. Simply use the FM Transmitter and tune your car audio to the preset station. Or share your music in office with your colleagues, get them to tune into your own music station during coffee breaks!

The speaker is loud! So it can be a boon or a bane. Good for sharing, but bad for irresponsible people who will use the phone to blast their music in public. A fun addition is the FM transmitter. I tried it out and the signal received on another phone is strong and clear. I even had fun trying to override one radio station, even though the receiver must be within near proximity.

The sound quality for the N78 is really good. I am able to receive good quality music & sound even from radio. Downloading of MP3 files to the external storage also much easier now.

I tried transferring music files via data transfer using the USB cable, but the files didn’t seem to be able to work. But transferring the music files via bluetooth works fine. Maybe it’s the Apple platform that is giving the problem, but I’m not sure about this. The speaker seems good and loud enough. Of course, it’s not as good as the 5610 music express version. And the 3.5 mm jack was a delight to use. And the hands-free loudspeaker is good and clear.

Nokia, you have been listening to your users by having a standard 3.5mm jack input! The ability to use my high-end in-earphones instead of the one packed with the unit is a HUGE plus as I can get the best sounds from my Mp3s, so THANK you! And the Navi-Wheel I mentioned earlier can now double up as a quick access to all my music stored in the phone, so say good-bye to my standalone Mp3/FM radio player, as the N78 is a much better music player! Now, I only need to carry 1 device in my pocket.

The speakers have a really loud maximum volume and should be useful for playing music outdoors. The visualization function is nice to look at. The headphone/charger wires are rather flimsy and inflexible. I like the FM transmitter, it’s useful for listening in the car and possibly at parties.

Listening to music with the headset provided produces clear sound quality. The music player does not seem to support MP3 with album metadata, unlike the N70.

The standard earphone headset that Nokia provides for the phone is nothing to rave about. I replaced it with my own in-ear earphones using the 3.5mm audio jack with ease which further improved the sound quality from the N78. The music player features a standard music player interface with an 8 band equalizer and some visualization. The audio quality is alright but it won’t completely replace my dedicated music player.

Music on speaker mode is comparable to the N73 in terms of loudness. The 3.5mm jack is really convenient as I do not have to use a Nokia original headset to listen to music or the radio. The only disappointment was that despite the fact that the phone comes with an integrated FM transmitter, I cannot activate the radio without a headset inserted.

The sound department on the phone was impressive. With the functions of its player, it can be used to replace any low-range MP3 players in the market.

The music produced from the N78 is reasonably clear with distinctive sound. Given its level of quality, replacing low-end music players in the market is definitely worth it. But it pales when compared to dedicated, sophisticated music players.

You can dump all music into the 1GB memory card and it acts like a normal MP3 player!

Beat up to the music with the Nokia N78’s speaker. The volume is loud and clear. Downloading music is less of a hassle now as there’s no need for cables anymore. Podcast lovers can simply tune in to them easily when you download. There’s no need to carry extra baggage, I mean an MP3 player, when you have this phone around. It’s simply music on the go!

The use of the 3.5mm standard audio jack is definitely a worthy inclusion any music lover would praise. The audio quality is average compared to my Sony Ericsson Walkman phone, but its multimedia shortcut key is quick and useful and it also has an equaliser to adjust the audio settings to my liking. The 2 solid speakers at each side of the phone produce loud and clear sound.

I would say that the music features are definitely much more improved than what I had expected. The audio quality is totally awesome and with the 3.5mm jack that allows me to use my all-time favourite Audio Technica headphones, my listening pleasure was multiplied immensely!

The Nokia N78 does a great job playing music and videos. The music player is impressive and browsing the playlists was easy with the scroll wheel. I enjoy all the extra music player features, such as the equalisers, easy playlist creation and cool visualisers. The phone also features a 3.5mm headphone jack to accommodate any of my headphones. To top off the list, the phone has an FM Transmitter which allows me to play all my favorite tracks stored in the phone on my car’s FM receiver. It does work pretty well.

Audio from the FM Transmitter and Nokia Music player is great. The external stereo speaker also produces clear music and bass when I play my music. The call quality is clear and its size fits well in my palm.

Excellent Music quality from the built-in speakers which are loud, but make sure you don’t play your music too loud as some distortion can be heard. The earphones provided are quite good. The built-in FM transmitter is so cool, because now you don’t need to carry cables when you want to hear your music in your car or your friend’s as you can transmit your music to an unused frequency on the radio.

    Pros: Excellent sound quality.
Cons: The sound tends to be softer when listening to music as compared to conversations on the phone.

Sound quality is fantastic through the headset. But as with most phones, the sound gets distorted when played through the speakers at higher volumes.
