Wireless Internet

At just 206 grams, you’ll find the pocket-sized Nokia N800 considerably lighter and portable than the notebook you currently hold dear. Complemented by a 4.13-inch touchscreen LCD, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth without the burden of a heavy battery, you’ll quickly agree that a whole new way of enjoying Internet on the go has arrived.

I started surfing at the wireless hotspots with the Wi-Fi, something I haven’t tried before and was impressed with the ease of connectivity and the portability.

Connectivity is acheived via Wi-Fi or with a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. This allows me to have the freedom to use the mobile provider of my choosing. (Sing-tel/M1) Using Wireless@SG aided me greatly when I need to check my mailing, conducting instant conversation with my client.

The WiFi reception on the Nokia N800 is better than I have seen on other WiFi enabled devices, including my notebook at home. This thing can pick up networks further away than my computer can pick up. Connecting to area WiFi networks is also very easy. Networks within range are displayed on the device, and you can pick which one you want to connect to. Once you’ve connected to a network once, it is stored on the tablet and will automatically connect to it if it’s in range in the future, which is nice because you don’t have to type in the access key each time you want to connect to a secured network.

With the N800’s Opera and Mozilla beta browsers (that I installed separately), I have been able to surf to all the websites that I visit daily and news ones that I find. I like to surf the web using the N800’s full-screen view. The zoom keys are useful whenever I need to show a portion of the screen to my colleagues or family members, or when I need to do a precise selection.

I caught a lot of attention with the N800. I was listening to my daily dose of Morning Express on Class 95 with it and surfing the internet reading the daily news and checking my email which is made possible by pairing up with my mobile phone. Web surfing was pretty much enjoyable thanks to her large display as compared to any portable handheld. Even when I am on the move, whenever there is wireless hot spot available, I am able to connect back to my office sip server using gizmo project and remain contactable. Even when there is no connectivity, I can always fall back to my mobile.
