For me, the Nokia N96 is thinner than the Nokia N95 8GB and it makes the phone better to hold. Not to mention the sliding mechanism is much sturdier. The screen is big and clear, even under the sun. If you liked the Nokia N81’s design, you should like Nokia N96. However, though the “wheel” is still there, the navi-wheel feature has been removed.

The operating system in the 1st generation is very stable. For the trial period of 2 weeks, the system did not reboot or hang. Design-wise, the Nokia N96 has its own originality. It’s not small, but still thinner than the Nokia N95, and its sliding mechanism is much more firm. Navigation button also plays important part of easy access to function.

As a Nokia N95 8GB user, I have been looking forward to reviewing this phone from the perspective of a potential upgrade. Those familiar with the Nokia N95 8GB, and indeed, other Nokia models using the latest Symbian OS would notice the similarities in the menu layout. As such, Nokia’s latest flagship is predictable. What differs though would be the addition of some nifty technology, the size of the screen and the improved layout and tactile feel (firmer) of the keypad, along with that chic metallic finish on the shell of the phone – a sure crowd-pleaser. Bottom-line: If you like the bells and whistles on offer, the Nokia N96 is a must-buy! If, however, you have had a taste of its predecessor, you may want to consider their next offering, which will hopefully offer greater new surprises.
