The Nokia N96 is a distinct marked improvement over the Nokia N95; sleek lines, flushed stylish buttons (ladies be warned though: the stiff buttons may require some strength), a large bright & sharp display, stereo speakers and the screen even auto-rotates between portrait & landscape modes! Body-build quality looks & feels sturdy yet slim to hold, except for the battery cover which seems rather flimsy; for the record though, the phone survived an unintentional drop from waist-level onto cement flooring that resulted in the battery & back-cover dislodging out of the main transceiver unit and there weren’t even any scratch or dent suffered…kudos to Nokia! Packaged with Nokia’s trademark suite of robust software features and slick-looking, quick & responsive user-interface & menus, the Nokia N96 certainly shines.

Upon opening the package, I was quite surprised to see that the Nokia N96 looks a bit like the Apple iPhone due to its shiny and glossy black screen. The resemblance stops there as the phone is actually quite thick at the side, and the “sharp edges” do not fit well into my palm. Also, till now, I do not understand why Nokia has never thought of incorporating a touch-screen together with their phones. There’s an easier way to do things and having a touch-screen really helps when surfing the net, instead of clicking your way around the screen. Nevertheless, the entertainment features available in the Nokia N96 really blew me away as the screen is sharp and watching videos on the Nokia N96 proved to be fast and without glitches. The racing game that came together with the phone kept me well-entertained also. Overall, except for being sore at the fact that the Nokia N96 does not have a touch-screen, I ‘heart’ this phone!

The Nokia N96 is THE device that every net-savvy, Gen-whatever is waiting for. Shoot, record, blog, chat, game, watch, listen, and yak my way to my heart’s content – the Nokia N96 delivers everything that its predecessor, the Nokia N95 promised, and then some more. I loved it for its sheer usability – all the features actually WORK, and it’s a great improvement over the Nokia N95 in terms of stability and speed.
